On the Morning of August 27, 1920, at 6:00am the City of South St. Paul held the very first election on the day following the ratification of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote.
Join the City of South St. Paul for the presentation Women Get the Vote, Friday, August 27, 1920 written and presented by our local historian Lois Glewwe.
The identity of the first woman to vote will be discussed as well as the history of sufferage across the nation including Minnesota which took up to seventy-plus years which led to the passage of the 19th Amendment.
Following the presentation, in keeping with the suffrage fashion, pie will be served. For more information, contact Deb Griffith, Community Affairs, at [email protected] or 651-554-3230.
