The South St. Paul Sustainability Recognition Program celebrates residents, organizations, and businesses for their contributions to sustainability. Initiated in 2024 under the guidance of the Sustainability Task Force, the program promotes and acknowledges local environmental stewardship efforts.
Nominations & Award Process:
- Nominations may be submitted by individuals or organizations, including self-nominations.
- Nomiators do not need to reside in South St. Paul.
- Submissions will be acceptd through October 1, 2025
- The Sustainability Task Force will review nominations during October.
- The number of awards granted will depend on the total nominations received.
- Both award recipients and nominators will be notified in October.
- Awardees will be formally recognized at a South St. Paul City Council meeting in November.

Award Eligibility:
- Any individual, non-profit, school, or company located in South St. Paul is eligible for nomination, based on a sustainablility-related program or initiative.
- Each nominee may be nominated for multiple categories.
- The program or initiative must have been implemented within the City of South St. Paul.
Nomination/Award Categories:
- Energy: installing solar panels or solar-powered lighting, installing a geothermal system or completing an energy-efficiency project such as attic insulation. Window replacement projects would not be considered an energy efficient project.
- Landscaping: creating a native planting area, developing pollinator-friendly gardens, converting traditional turf to low/no-mow grass, or installing a rain garden.
- Waste Reduction: food waste reduction programs, community composting efforts, or creative reuse/recycling of construction materials.
