The IGH FD jointly hosts an annual Citizens Fire Academy alongside the South Metro Fire Department where participants receive hands-on and classroom firefighting training.*
Experience Real Fire Department Training!
In the Citizen’s Fire Academy, participants will be given a behind-the-scenes look at firefighting. Along with an in-depth informational look at each fire department, the Citizens Fire Academy includes participation in varying fire, rescue, and EMS activities such as:
- Use real fire equipment
- Learn vehicle extrication—cut up a car to rescue someone inside
- Learn Basic First Aid and hands-only CPR
- Wear your own fire gear in a live fire training
- Learn valuable life safety skills you can use at home
Requirements:
This unique eight-week program is open to residents who live and/or work within the cities of West St. Paul, South St. Paul, or Inver Grove Heights. All ages 18+ and abilities are welcome. Anyone can participate to their comfort level.
Sessions are three hours per week for eight weeks:
- Wednesdays, Sept. 13–Nov. 1 · 6:30–9:30 p.m. (Apply by Sept. 12 at 5 p.m.)
